A Diffuse Interface Model for Electrowetting with Moving Contact Lines

چکیده
We introduce a diffuse interface model for the phenomenon of electrowetting on dielectric and present an analysis of the arising system of equations. Moreover, we study discretization techniques for the problem. The model takes into account different material parameters on each phase and incorporates the most important physical processes, such as incompressibility, electrostatics and dynamic contact lines; necessary to properly reflect the relevant phenomena. The arising nonlinear system couples the variable density incompressible Navier–Stokes equations for velocity and pressure with a Cahn–Hilliard type equation for the phase variable and chemical potential, a convection diffusion equation for the electric charges and a Poisson equation for the electric potential. A diffuse-interface model for electrowetting drops in a Hele-Shaw cell
Electrowetting has recently been explored as a mechanism for moving small amounts of fluids in confined spaces. We propose a diffuse interface model for drop motion, due to electrowetting, in a Hele-Shaw geometry. In the limit of small interface thickness, asymptotic analysis shows the model is equivalent to Hele-Shaw flow with a voltagemodified Young-Laplace boundary condition on the free surf...
متن کامل3D simulations of flows with moving contact lines using a diffuse interface method: a shear-driven droplet moving on a wall
A diffuse interface method is used to simulate two-phase flows with moving contact lines in 3D. The specific numerical issue is the validation of the method regarding the dynamics of moving contact lines in 3D. In particular, we aim to use the method to extend previous (2D and/or creeping-flow) work on sheardriven motion of a droplet on a wall to the full 3D problem, accounting for inertial eff...

متن کاملStick-Slip to Sliding Transition of Dynamic Contact Lines under AC Electrowetting.
We show that at low velocities the dynamics of a contact line of a water drop moving over a Teflon-like surface under ac electrowetting must be described as stick-slip motion, rather than one continuous movement. At high velocities we observe a transition to a slipping regime. In the slipping regime the observed dependence of the contact angle is well described by a linearization of both the hy...
متن کاملShaken not stirred –On internal flow patterns in oscillating sessile drops
We use numerical (volume of fluid) simulations to study the flow in an oscillating sessile drop immersed in an ambient immiscible fluid. The drop is excited by a sinusoidal variation of the contact angle at variable frequency. We identify the eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes of the drops and analyze the internal flow fields by following the trajectories of tracer particles. The flow fields displ...
